Quick Update...

Obviously we are NG at blogging...
We will try again...

Eloise Kayte Davis arrived after approximately 36 hours of labor including 2 1/2 hours of pushing.  It was worth every minute when Dr. Alarcon said "it's a beautiful baby girl".  We would have felt the same way if he had said boy : ).  She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19 inches long.  That was more than 2 years ago!  The first few months were happy and HARD!  We would do it all over again!

Since then we have celebrated 3 Halloween's, 3 Thanksgivings, 2 Christmas, and 2 New Years.  Matt and I have gotten older, but better.  We have both lost more than 50 pounds and are enjoying a much healthier lifestyle and smaller clothing.  Ellie Kayte is now around 30 pounds and almost 36 inches at her 2 year well check.  She wears clothing size 3T and size 8 shoes.  She loves babies, both real and dolls.  She eats almost anything, we worked hard not to allow her to be a picky eater, edamame is currently her favorite food.  She loves to play outside.  She likes to play with balls and bubbles.  She has recently began throwing BIG, UGLY, DANGEROUS (for us) tantrums.  She has a mind of her own and isn't afraid to let you know what she thinks and how she feels.  She uses a MLU of 6 (speech therapy talk for she is way above average in speech and language).  She is never quiet!

That brings us to what prompted this update...
We are now living in Japan!  We were given this opportunity on Ellie Kayte's first birthday and Matt moved in August 2013.  Ellie Kayte and mommy followed in November 2013.  Most of you reading this, or who need to know, know all the details in between.  Hopefully, we can now update you weekly (at a minimum) with pictures and information about what we are doing in Hamamatsu, Japan.

No looking back now

The countdown in on.  Steph's doctor sent her straight to the hospital this afternoon.  I will spare everyone the medical details, but the doctor said it was time.  I came home from work and pack the car to meet Steph and Marvin at the hospital.  Now here we are, nurse visits every few hours, waiting on medicine and nature to kick in.  We aren't expecting much until tomorrow evening.

My final meal before entering parenthood was from Waffle House thank god, last song was Party Rock Anthem (correction ... firing up Spotify to fix that), and last tv show was UVA beating Miami and Game 6 of the World Series.  Texas is trying like crazy to win it in extra innings.

I think we have finalized the name(s).  Last chance to make your guesses on the gender (boy, girl, or dinosaur).  I have been saying dinosaur all along.  I just hope all the grandparents have their names picked out.

More soon enough ....

Random Thoughts

BED! REST! IS! NO! FUN!
(That will be all I have to say about that.)

I have made it to 36 weeks, 2 days...
Seems funny to think that we are so close to bringing a new baby into our home.  It is exciting and so terrifying at the same time.

I am very excited to know if the tiny human we have done so much preparation for and already love so much will be a boy or girl.  I am still glad we made the decision not to find our the gender, but for the last 2 weeks I have been so anxious to know the answer.  (Probably because that is all I can think about while on bed rest : ))

Do we have everything we need to care for a tiny human?  If there is anything you can think of that we might not have thought of, please let us know!

Do I really have the skills to take care of a tiny human?  Through my job I work with and give advice to parents of infants everyday.  Can I really put into practice what I tell the parents?  Friends have told me it will come naturally...I hope they are right.

"Rest now..."  What?  That is all I am doing... I don't think God created our bodies to store sleep/rest like a savings account at CB&T.  So I am "resting now."  We will see if that has any effect on the sleep I will miss out on once the tiny human arrives.  I doubt it!

I am blessed with the most amazing husband!  He has been wonderful about doing everything while I haven't been able to help!

We are blessed with wonderful parents who constantly show us how much they love and support us.

My mom especially is amazing!  I am almost sure there is nothing in my house that she hasn't done in the past 3 weeks.

I can't wait to know when the tiny human will make his/her entrance into this crazy world!

How are the logistics of Christmas going to work with a baby?  Packing everything to travel even a short distance and/or for only one or two nights for a baby seems overwhelming.

How can I keep the germs away???  Am I going to be a complete germ-a-phobe???

This post is titled "random thoughts" for a reason.  These are the things I can't stop thinking of while I continue to wait.  There are plenty more...I will save those for later.  : )

Just the Beginning...

Matt and I have been "together" for 14 years, almost half of our lives.  In that time we have been through lots of life changes...high school graduation, the first day of college, many stressful final exams, college graduations, graduate school times 2, engagement, wedding planning, the BIG DAY, buying our first home, our first jobs, job changes, traveling, the loss of loved ones, and the births of new ones...we have been through all of these things TOGETHER.  Now a new, and maybe the most wonderful, experience is ahead for us...

As the journey of growing our family begins, we are hoping to share it with you.  We are very excited to be beginning this phase of our lives and we hope you enjoy following along.

I am sure there will be ups and downs...and I have no doubts there will be lots of laughs.  Hopefully we can not only inform you, but also entertain you for a few minutes each week.

This is just the beginning!
